Location
If you are looking for a romantic hotel with rooms overlooking the sea, where you can admire spectacular sunsets, choose I Tre Merli Inn in Camogli. It is in a central location, inside a calm area with limited traffic, in front of the boat dock for Portofino, San Fruttuoso and Genoa and, especially, the Cinque Terre (Five Lands).
From the inn you can go on a suggestive walk along the seashore of Camogli and to the splendid Basilica di Santa Maria Assunta, from where you can go the secular Castle of the Dragonara, old political headquarters and at that times safe haven from enemy incursions.
The Museo Marinaro in Camogli shows a collection of objects belonging to the seafaring tradition, belonging to the period during wich Camogli’s people owned nearly one third of Italian mercantile marine (more than 1.000 vessels). Inside you can admire compasses, manuscripts from the 19th Century and paintings of maritime scenes; everything has been donated to the Institute by the families of the sailors.
For trekking lovers, many are the itineraries inside the Natural Park of Portofino; by feet you can reach also the Romanic Church of San Nicolò in Capodimonte, the Monastic basil of S.Fruttuoso, and the Sanctuary of Nostra Signora del Boschetto that are, together with the Church of San Rocco, religious buildings you do not want to miss. The first one, on the path that goes to the Punta Chiappa, conserves a marvelous facade in bare stone from the 12th Century; the second collects the ex voto from mariners, and is located where the tradition says the Virgin Mary appeared.
Camogli is famous for at least two festivities: the Sagra del Pesce, which uses a steel frying pan with a diameter of 4 meters – entered into the Guiness Book as the largest in the world! – and the Stella Maris, a spectacular procession on the sea illuminated by torches and thousands of candles on the water that ends at Punta Chiappa, with an enchanting mass. How to get here
By Train
By Train. The ‘Camogli - San Fruttuoso’ train station is 400 m from the I Tre Merli Inn. Camogli is well serviced by local and long-distance trains directly to Genoa. Once you get off the train, follow the walkway along the shore until you reach the small boat dock, and the I Tre Merli Inn will be in front.
By boat
By boat. You can also get to Camogli on one of the boats coming from Genoa's Old Port (in front of the Restaurant ‘I Tre Merli Porto Antico’), the Genoa International Fair, Recco and Portofino; the service changes with the seasons, so please call to find out about boat availability and schedules. The I Tre Merli Inn is in front of the small boat wharf.
By Plane
In aereo. The Genoa airport is 40 km away. To get to the inn, take the shuttle from the airport to Genoa's Principe train station, and follow the indications under ‘By Train’. If you are travelling by car, go on highway A12 towards Genoa - La Spezia and take the Recco exit, you will then arrive in Camogli by following the instructions under ‘By Car’.
By car
Go on highway A12 towards Genoa - La Spezia and take the Recco exit to Camogli (2 Km) by following the directions shown at the first traffic light. As a customer of the I Tre Merli Inn, you will have the right to access the Limited Traffic Area (ZTL) that is exclusive for loading and unloading operations (about 30 minutes); go towards the marina, leave your luggage at the inn and leave your car in our private parking (if the ZTL bar is down, especially at night, press Button 3, which connects you to the I Tre Merli Inn, and follow the phone instructions).
